Not all CBD is created equal. There are 3 principle types created by different methods of extraction.
- Broad Spectrum CBD
- Full Spectrum CBD
- CBD Isolate
Each type of extract has its own advantages and disadvantages. The names may be confusing, and we at IX want to ensure our customers are choosing the right product for their needs.
There are advantages and disadvantages to each type of CBD extract. However before we get into that we need to understand first what factors determine the type of CBD; cannabinoids
Why Cannabinoids matter so much
There are many parts to a hemp plant and within each plant there are compounds known as cannabinoids.
There are over 113 identified cannabinoids — with THC and CBD being the best known. (Don't worry, we don't use THC here)
In 1995, scientists discovered a giant network of receptors in our nervous systems immune system & brain that react with cannabinoids. Scientists also determined cannabinoids like CBD could deliver unique health benefits to the body. Dubbed the Endocannabinoid System (ECS), the door of possibility was now open.
In later years they discovered that each cannabinoid could affect the body differently. Which is what leads us to the science of CBD extracts we know today.
Each of those cannabinoids plays a unique role in how our body processes CBD.
What is the entourage effect?
Despite the complicated name, the entourage effect is fairly easy to understand. It refers to the synergy achieved by all the components in cannabis. These components work together to enhance the potential benefits of the plant. Each compound can amplify the therapeutic properties of the others while mitigating their potential side effects (1).
In regular people terms: Some people like to have cheese pizza. Others like lots of toppings. Neither are bad, just different. All of the different toppings on this pizza gives it lots of flavor.
The entourage effect will give your body the best the hemp plant has to offer. Which can increase your relief of symptoms.
There are so many things to consider when choosing one CBD product over another. Your tolerance level, lifestyle, overall body chemistry is going to dictate which you want to try.Now let's break down each CBD extract.
What is Full Spectrum CBD?
It's all natural baby! Every part of the hemp plant has been carefully extracted to create a Full Spectrum CBD.
This full blend of CBD will create the entourage effect. As previously discussed this effect will allow your body access to increased benefits. You will receive all of the essential vitamins, minerals, Omega fatty acids and terpenes found in the unprocessed hemp plant.
However, Full Spectrum CBD contains the highest level of THC. Although the amount still is so small (less then 0.03%) it can give a false positive on a drug test for those who are daily CBD users.
However for those with ailments that other CBD extracts have been unable to help with, this is a wonderful option.
What is Broad Spectrum CBD?
Broad Spectrum CBD has ALL the benefits we mentioned before with Full Spectrum, however it has zero THC.
For the CBD user will experience all the goodness the hemp plant has to offer. Increased health benefits & stronger potency without the risk of THC. For those who cannot
What is CBD Isolate?
CBD Isolate is the purest form of CBD & has zero THC.
Any part of the hemp plant which includes, flavonoids, terpenes & cannabinoids is removed as the isolate is extracted.
“The advantage of using CBD isolate over other formats is the highest concentration of CBD per serving. Isolates are usually 99% pure, meaning that one gram of isolate powder carries about 990 mg of CBD.” says Augustine Hanger of Colorado-based hemp CBD grower IHF LLC. (1)
